Riot Fest is Finally Here!!
Riot Fest Weekend is finally here!! It's happening at Humboldt Park in Chicago. While I must say that this is not the greatest weather for a outdoor music festival. All in attendance will have a great time!
Must see bands for me on Day 1 include GWAR, and Stiff Little Fingers early in the day. It will be very interesting to see how GWAR soldiers on after the tragic death of their lead singer, Dave Brockie. I imagine with lots of fake blood and mayhem. Ireland's Stiff Little Fingers have been a very influential band for many with great sing along anthems through the years. I was introduced to them via Naked Raygun's amazing cover of "Suspect Device." It will be great to hear this song performed by this legendary punk band along with other classics from"Inflammable Material."
At 6 pm on the Roots stage, NOFX performing their classic album, "Punk in Drublic." Several bands are performing classic albums in their entirety to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the festival.
At 7 pm I have a choice between gypsy punks Gogol Bordello which always put on a great show or metal favorites Mastodon who I have never seen live before.
The Offspring perform "Smash" at 7:45. While I'm not a huge fan of them by any means. "Smash" was a good record and worth checking out at least for some of the time.
It is the headliners where the greatest dilemma occurs at 8:45 pm. Slayer vs. Jane's Addiction! Both are performming timeless classics. It's "Reign in Blood" against "Nothing's Shocking." I already know that many friends will be in attendance for Jane's. I have never seen Slayer or Jane's, so I have to split the sets. I rather catch the beginning of Slayer and see the second half of Jane's Addiction. All this rock n roll, plus eats, and drinks are what await me at this amazing festival happening this weekend.
